End of Life
Doula Services
Holding space for those navigating the dying process
“When my dad was dying, Natalie was a great help to my family. We were thankful for her calm presence and gentle suggestions. Having Natalie’s help allowed me to spend more quality time with my dad. We felt cared for and supported, not just as my father passed but afterwards as well. We are so grateful to Natalie and would recommend her to anyone in need of end of life care.”
- Rebecca
Facing death, whether your own or a loved one, can feel overwhelming and frightening. As an end of life doula, Natalie is committed to listening, supporting, and educating clients through the dying process.
Death Education Sessions
Death Education Sessions are available for those interested in exploring options available during end of life and after death for themselves or a loved one. Sessions can take place in person or virtually, depending on your location and preference. Topics generally covered include hospice options, creating a soothing environment, legacy projects, living wills, and advanced care directives. After-death topics can include burial/cremation choices as well as funeral and wake planning.
Support Services for the Dying Person
Serving a person at the end of their life can take many forms, depending on the needs of the individual, their family, and caregivers. As a doula to someone at the end of their life, Natalie’s role can include being a companion, helper, or planner. Services to the dying person can include:
Assisting with legacy projects such as recording life stories or writing final letters to loved ones
Creating a warm, soothing environment for the dying person. This includes sensory experiences that are familiar and comforting (such as bringing in visually appealing objects, comforting smells or touch, and playing music)
Deep listening—sitting quietly and allowing the dying person to express themselves with minimal commentary and without judgment.
Sitting vigil. This may include sitting quietly with someone, playing music, reading aloud, or a gentle hand and foot massage. Sitting vigil gives caregivers reprieve to take some time for themselves or to tend to other family members.
Support Services for Families
As family and caregivers of a dying person, people’s needs also vary. As a support person, Natalie helps caregivers understand the dying process and how to support their loved one through the process. Some services include:
Helping with practical tasks around the home, such as making sure everyone is eating, resting, and caregivers aren’t being overwhelmed by visitors
Deep listening—just as with the dying person, this form of listening allows the family to share their worries and grief without judgment.
Assistance with planning end of life care and making arrangements for after death, such as a wake or memorial service.
