End of Life Doula Services
Death Education
This is for anyone who wants to learn about what options are available at the end of life and after death for themselves or a loved one. We can meet in person or talk over Zoom. The topics generally covered for end of life care are exploring hospice options, how to create a soothing environment, legacy projects, living wills and advanced care directives. The topics generally covered for after death are choices in burial or cremation and funeral and wake planning,
End of life support for the dying person
This service includes spending time with the dying person as a companion, helper and planner.
This service includes:
Helping with legacy projects like recording life stories and/or writing letters to loved ones.
Creating a warm, soothing environment. This could mean playing music, filling the space with things that are visually appealing to the dying person like plants, photos and art. Some people enjoy the smell of cooking long past their desire to eat so I also can help families create favorite smells that come from the kitchen if at home, or to be brought into the hospice center or hospital for the dying person to enjoy.
Deep listening. This means sitting quietly and letting someone express themselves with minimal commentary and no judgment.
Sitting vigil. This can be sitting quietly with someone, playing music, reading from a book out loud, or a gentle hand and foot massage. Sitting vigil also allows family members to have reprieve for taking care of their loved one.
Family support
This includes helping families understand the dying process and how to support their loved one through the process.
Helping with practical things around the home like making sure everyone is eating, resting and not getting overwhelmed by visitors.
Deep listening. Just as with the dying person this form of listening allows the family to share their worries and grief without judgment.
Help with planning end of life care and arrangements after death.
Fees
